HISTORY
Defender, designed by Nathaniel Greene Hereshoff, defeated the New York Yachts Club's Vigilant and went on to defend the cup against the British keel cutter Valkyrie III. Following the contest, Defender was towed to New Rochelle where remained for another four years without sailing.
